Christmas is fast approaching and the New Year is waiting in the wings for 2017 to start.  Its been a very interesting year for me, lots of new ideas, shoots and meeting more creatives over the past twelve months, with that in mind its time to perhaps take stock of the situation and look forward to what is coming up.
My plans for the calender were delayed and now things are in place for a 2018 launch as I have more time and more importantly more funds available for that project.   The Photobook that I started is now taking shape and will be completed mid 2017 hopefully, its going to be something that I wanted to do and will finally be done in very high quality.  More and more shoots are being planned with a number of models, that are new to me and one in particular that has become my current muse, with whom I want to do a considerable number of shoots in the coming months and already have plans in place to work with.
Gear wise this year I will be expanding my studio equipment to have more professional lights available from April time and new stands/backdrops arriving in the early february period.  I am also adding a couple more cameras to my collection and a few new lenses that will be of use to me in the year of intense shooting that I have planned, having reached 60 I will have more time to work on these projects.
Ok enough of the text and more of the pictures that I am sure you will be happy to see on here, this is just a selection of some of the work that I have done over the past 12 months so sit back and enjoy.

Ok its time to wrap things up for this blog, thanks for viewing and if you want to put a comment on the bottom please do so if you have liked what you have seen.

My plans for the 2017 are extensive and I hope to complete them in stages so I will be posting more regular blogs as the new year goes on and projects are completed.  Naturally it will be interesting to see the results that can be created and I hope that you will enjoy my work as I present it too you all.

Again thanks for 2016 see you in the next one.  Paul Rowe, Photographer and Creative.

New Models in the industry today

Ok in the past I have written a number of articles on new models and I thought it best like they do in america with the state of the union address to update things to take a long hard and difficult look at the current situation with models in the united kindom.

I took a long hard look at the number of new models on the scene and found out some disturbing facts that photographers need to take note of and should consider before making a booking.

Firstly, many of the new models out there have simply been told, ohh you look good you should be a model, fifty seconds later with the help of a friend they have a profile, they are seeking payed work only and have a number of little more than camera phone pictures plastered over the internet where they expect to earn vast sums of money from snotty faced young geek photographers or past it over the hill ones who get their rocks off by taking pictures and well I leave the end result up to you.

Secondly, these new models (Or should I say the term MOVELS) have little intention of being serious about making a proper career in the industy, many have been ill advised on how much they can make and most have never learnt anything about how to pose, prepare for shoot or indeed been advised on how to build up a collection of professional images that they need to get on.

Thirdly, these girls and guys see this as a quick win for them with no long term plan, ie: working to gain experience, getting professional images that can be used with an agency and then getting published in proper magazines not the tabloid press that seems to churn them out on a regular basis then move on to the next one.  Some of these people have no knowledge that there are a certain number of people ready and willing to exploit them from day one and will have no qualms in killing off their career plans in the first few weeks or months.

Professional standards seem to have been thrown out of the windows these days.   In the past a model was discovered by a photographer or agent, they were sent for a test shoot, following this a consultation would take place and if suitable they would be enlisted on a series of training sessions giving tips and advice on how to pose, choosing suitable clothes to wear, advice on makeup and lots more about the business of modelling.
Following this they would move on to doing a range of TF work with professionals willing to provide suitable images that they could use in their model book and for professional advertising purposes.  Sometimes a photographer would take a selected model under their wing for teaching purposes and specific guidance about the styles of work they wanted to aim for such as fashion, glamour etc..

These days this does not happen much and the result is so many new portfolios containing a rapid assortment of badly taken pictures that do little to promote and sell the model and many that are more of an insult to the poor girl or guy in the images.    If this carries on then the industry will slowly turn itself into something that is not suitable to nurture a model and little more than a movel of the week situation.  Many professional photographers these days have turned away from modelling sites and have moved to work directly with the agencies that in the past they only used for occasional shoot material for clients, this is as a result of the influx of more and more untrained, money grabbing individuals who see modelling as a simple cash cow to milk.

Its sad when you consider how good some of these new girls could be if they only had some help and guidance that told them the truth, in some cases that they are not cut out to be models, that they should change their attitude to the industy and for many that this is a full time career not a part time job they can quickly hope in and out of.   One only has to look at the busy models to understand how this works, effective networking, timekeeping, commitment to the career and ability to work hard is standard for them and it shows with the number of bookings that they take to keep themselves in funds as a professional model.

Many of you reading this might think this is a dig at those new models, far from that it is a simple statement of fact that the industy needs a re-think and anyone who is serious about entering this difficult and time consuming career needs to get professional advice, help and above all a commitment to do well.  Hopefully in time this may occur but looking at the stats I feel that the damage has been done by so many bad models that it may be too late.

Thanks for reading, till the next one, bye for now.    Paul Rowe.

Nottingham, Leicester and Sheffield 2016

Well I did say that I would get round to writing about the trip that I planned for some model shoots.  I had six models lined up for the session but as per normal two of them dropped out.  I have to take it that on average a 33% drop out on shoots might be considered normal for model shoots these days.  Still I digress a little from the topic of the blog.

My weeks holiday was to cover a trip in three locations, travelling by train and staying in hotels that could also be used as backdrops for the shoots.  Out of interest I will not mention the Hotels but if anyone wants to know which ones I recommend please get in contact and I can give references for those to stay in and those to avoid like the plague.

The first problem was that I did not have a suitcase big enough to carry my clothes, the lingerie that I had got for the models and of course the lighting, my camera would be in the camera case of course.  A quick trip to the local B&M store provided me with a nice new Blue suitcase able to carry everything and be compact enough to get on the train without a struggle.

Camera Packed, lenses, lights, stands, umbrellas, trigger and a lot of lingerie later I was ready, topped off with a few items of clothing for me to wear and the stage was set.

My first port of call was Leicester and staying at a good quality hotel there for my first night and first shoot with Scarlett Louise, a great model, we worked on a number of images and got some great results.

The aim of the shoot was to create some sensual and evocative images and I think we managed.

The second night was in another hotel but due to both the models doing no-show in one case and the other being a last minute cancellation, names available to report the guilty models upon request it was a simple overnight stop.

The next day off to Nottingham for my main stay of the holiday.   This is a great place to stay at, plenty to do and lots to see as well, the Hotel in this case was simply superb and ideal for the shoots planned, two superb models attended this Carmen and Halo.   Both girls were excellent models and the results speak for themselves as being a brilliant series of images that I wanted to create.

So nice to get such a range from the girls, the hotel room was perfect for the pictures and the results were great.

Final leg of the trip was travelling towards home and stopping off in Sheffield for the final shoot with Rosa Brighid whom I had worked with before but something that I had been looking forward too as I had specific outfits that I wanted to do with her and I knew the results would be good.

A perfect end to a perfect week of shooting, the models whom I worked with really worked hard to produce the best results and I was so happy to get back home to get on with the editing.  Good models should be a treasure that you use again and again and these girls really did deliver the best in image results for me, happy to work with all of them again the future.   A restful, exciting and wonderful holiday week that was worth waiting for and I now look forward to the next time that I plan the next trip.  Thanks for reading and I hope that you enjoy looking at the pictures too.   Till next time to find out what I am up to in the end of April/Early May stay tuned and watch the next blog.    Till then happy snapping and enjoy the spring.

A little bit of Studio work with a stunning young lady.

I have recently taken some time to work at the superb Barlow Photographic Studios in Chesterfield on both a model day and a group shoot.   I have to say that on both events over the two days both models were superb to work with and the studio presented me with some excellent sets of images from the backdrops available to work from.  It was also useful to know that one of the models that I was working with will be one that I am working with in Sheffield at the end of this month.   Nice to meet her before the shoot and try out some ideas together so that we can get used to each others working styles and abilities.

Not to leave much to the imagination I am happy that the results were great and some examples are shown below for you visual stimulation and enjoyment.   I look forward to posting more following my Leicester and Nottingham trips too in the way of more results from the half a dozen models I will be working with there.

Its interesting to note that these results were from only an hour booking with the model at the studio, varied and wonderful results from a truly professional model.

2016 - Welcome to the New Year.

Welcome people to the wonderful 2016, hoping that you all had a great christmas and new year time and are looking forward to the exciting new year ahead.   Its blog time again so I thought it best to catch up with things and see whats planned in the coming 12 months ahead.

As many of you will know I put the photography on the back burner for the last 12 months with work commitments taking up a lot of my time.  Its hoped that the situation will change soon and I will have more time to work with you wonderful people out that in the coming year so I have put things in place to ensure that more shoots are undertaken for this in the next few months.

My first plans for this year include a trip in February going to the fair city of Leicester and working with a number of models, then travelling up to Nottingham with a final visit up into Sheffield to conclude the tour.  Over that time I have over 6 shoots booked with a range of models and I look forward to them with keen interest to come out with a range of shots as a result I hope to put a few images up from these sometime in early March so keep watching for results.

End of March and early April more shoots booked with a short tour of Derbyshire taking place to finally visit the studios around there and get in time with a number of models that I have worked with in the past and I hope to have more shots from those up by the end of April.

July sees a few more tours taking me out into the Humberside region of Yorkshire models again to be booked and I will be looking at a local studio to work in then.

August sees a trip down into the big smoke to get a few shoots taking there looking at doing some Fashion on location with a few models hopefully so another fun packed time.

September and October sees my plans for location work and heading to Halifax/leeds for shoots so plenty of ideas for summer style shots if the weather permits.

November will see more studio work in Sheffield taking place plans are in place for those taking part in that already.

As you can see its a packed year with lots of shoots taking place so that I hope to be able to get the calender ready for the 2017 period as a result of all the pictures taken.  This will be a limited run and available privately from me again booking for this needs to be done in advance cost to be approx £12:50 per issue and its an A3 size one.  13 images in full colour with month to view.

I'm looking forward to all the fun I know I shall have meeting with and working with all my friends this coming year so can I say in finishing have a great 2016.

Pictures below from a shoot last year from my first visit to Leicester with Scarlett Louise.

2015 The winds of change.

Over the past few years my focus (Please excuse the pun) has changed with my heavy involvement with my new job as a salesperson for a large photographic retailer.   My time has not been my own and to some extent my photography has suffered a bit with a lack of images being produced.   Over recent months I have been working to sort out things to ensure that I will have a new range of pictures for you to all view and hope that my planning will then lead on to more things in the years to come.   Yep as some of you may know big things are planned for 2018 so my time will be well spent in the between years.    I will be doing more special shoots in 2016 and then in 2017 a specific calendar shoot will take place after that the commercial work will continue with the studio project opening things up again for people to take great images.

So to keep you all happy I will conclude with a selection of images taken this year for you to view, keep watching and please note you are welcome to comment and give your views.

Stay Safe, Stay Well and above all keep snapping.
